I (23f) would say have a great relationship with my grandpa(-rents). When I call my grandparents I usually call them on my grandmothers phone and on their home phone its still usually her who picks up the phone cause she is quicker. She always puts it on speaker and my grandpa is usually not far away so he hears the whole conversation. She usually is the one who tells me when my grandpa is having new issues. Like needing a break on their last city trip or when he has a new old age related symptom. I know older men specifically have their pride when it comes to their autonomy independence. Of course I also enjoy talking with my grandma and after I talked with her she gives the phone to my grandpa and he says "I already heard everything. You dont need to repeat yourself." not in a mean way but in a very kind way. Then he just asks me about my job and if anything else happened. Which is usually a very quick conversation. I ask him about his health and he just says that he gets older and others have it worse. But, he doesn’t even tell me about the city trip. What he saw. Nothing. He does talk more with me in real life. Mostly about history since we both like history. Yes he’s an old men who doesnt wanna talk about the things he cant do anymore but there is nothing he wants to talk about on the phone? Mentally he is still there its mostly his physical health so its not that I can’t have a nice conversation with him. I know that he knows he doesnt have much time left. And I dont see my grandparents often since they live far away. So why doesnt he wanna talk with me on the phone? Hes like a father to me cause it’s mostly him who raised me and not my bio dad. So it makes me sad and idk what to do with this old men. Like its really just on the phone. Today I asked him why he doesnt wanna talk with me on the phone and he didnt give me an answer to my question and that we will talk when I am visiting them again (which yes is soon but lets be honest, he could be gone by then.) So can some old men tell me why? submitted by /u/Dull-Tip7699
