I’m just a young man trying to find my way in the world. I’ve done well academically in high school & college & am lucky to have some good opportunities lined up. But, I don’t have anyone in my family in these high prestige careers to know if it is actually worth the sacrifice it takes to get there. I’m talking about big law, doctor specialists. From the outside perspective of just a young man in the world, I feel like the US puts a lot of weight on money/status for men. Maybe life would be a bit better if I had those things! I didn’t grow up in a wealthy family or with anyone with status like this, my family were all just truck drivers, work at the post office, etc. But also from the outside, people say how stressful these careers were, and they had to sacrifice so much to attain them! Maybe a more middle path job that pays decent but not as high, and doesn’t have the “societal prestige” factor would actually lead to a more happy life. I’m honestly not sure and just hoping to get perspective from people. Especially from men in these careers, if they’ve felt the years and many hours spent were worth it. submitted by /u/Inner_Ad_4725
