I just ran a 1 hour session with Opus 4.8 and kept noticing weird echo calls “hi”, “probe”, “alive” etc. When reading the logs: Line 67 output=64000 stop=max_tokens Echo “hi” Like 378 output 64000 stop=max_tokens Echo “hello” This happened 151 times over a 1 hour session before a silent compaction not surfaced to me in the session dropped cached context back to 17k tokens from where it was originally at ~183k tokens. This matches up with a bug that I feel like I have been having since yesterday morning and which another user surfaced on here a couple of days back, extremely long red thinking blocks on very simple (for opus) requests.
