When I think through whether I’d use an AI tool that reads my screen, I keep getting stuck on one specific question: does the screen content leave my machine? Screenshotting something and pasting it into a chat is something I already do regularly. The difference with a screen-reading tool is that the capture happens programmatically, which means data could theoretically be sent somewhere without me watching it happen. I’m not particularly paranoid. I use cloud tools for most things. But there’s something about screen content specifically, it includes things I never made a conscious decision to share, that feels different from a file I deliberately uploaded. I’ve also wondered if the answer is just seeing exactly what gets captured before it goes anywhere. Some kind of preview step rather than trusting the policy description.
