While this is not new(always been this way), that just launching CC uses your l!mits, it always been like 1% or even lower, today i launched cc and the first thing i did is to type “/usage” and saw 5% of the session. Didn’t do anything with Claude in this time window. ALSO, when Opus 4.8 dropped, i also didn’t do anything with Claude, went to check it on the vscode extension (not the terminal. The top of this post is about the terminal, this part is about the extention), and i saw 40% of the session is already used. Again, without sending any prompt, the only thing i did is to check usage. I always keep a super close eye on my usage and l!mits, these kinds of issues are nothing new for Anthropic(IYKYK), but this time it’s just too much. My suspicion is that the model is used somehow in some way just for navigating the interface, which I don’t understand why or how. Over the months I noticed that if I select the model Haiku and navigate Claude Code then the usage will be much lower. To be clear, im not even talking about doing anything, all of the stuff im trying to explain/talk about in this post, IS WITHOUT SENDING ANY PROMPT (unless they somehow use models to get and display info from commands such as “/usage”. I also noticed the same pattern with the “/release notes” ). Anyone else experienced this kind of a thing? Any explanations/recommendations/solutions/clarifications will be welcomed. If you experienced something similar i would also like to know im not alone and just how widespread this issue is. Im on pro sub, windows 11, powershell 7.6.2, vscode insiders, The CC terminal was opened within vscode powershell (not a standalone separate terminal), if that matters in some way im not aware of. submitted by /u/Rare-Hotel6267
