ok i’ve used all three enough now to have opinions. nobody asked but here we go opus 4.6 was the unhinged era. thing would just commit. asked it to do something stupid? it did it. no notes. wrong sometimes but it had a certain confidence that felt good. like a friend who gives terrible advice but delivers it with such convictoin you almost respect it. also cognition literally said 4.8 “fixed issues from 4.7 and improved on 4.6” which means 4.6 was actually the vibe baseline and 4.7 was the weird middle child opus 4.7 was a mess honestly and im tired of pretending otherwise. it got verbose for no reason. it started doing this thing where it would use tools weirdly and leave these long rambling comments in code like it was writing a memoir. multiple companies literally complained about it publicly which is embarrassing. it wasnt bad it was just. off. like a band’s difficult second album where they had too much studio time opus 4.8 is what 4.7 was trying to be. cleaner, faster, flags its own mistakes, spins up subagents, cheaper fast mode. BUT and this is important it now has the personality of someone who just discovered radical honesty as a lifestyle. will not let anything go. will tell u when ur idea is a bit mid. will caveat everything so basically: 4.6 = fun but sometimes a liar 4.7 = boring AND sometimes a liar, worst of both worlds 4.8 = reliable but will make u feel slightly judged at all times pick ur poison i guess edit: yes i kno i cant spel submitted by /u/irelatetolevin
