On Opus 4.7, I switched the effort from high to medium, because I found high took forever and created so many tokens that Claude would start to ignore CLAUDE.md preferences and lose track of what it was doing. I generally noticed faster performance and fewer mistakes when I ran on medium. The upgrade to Opus 4.8 switched my effort back to high, and it took about a day for me to realize this is why I’m seeing those kinds of issues again.
