Hi Switzerland, Over the last few days, I have seen multiple threads where people mentioned mobile split AC units, for example the PortaSplit, which seems to be very popular and generally well received. If I am not mistaken, currently available portable split units may no longer be allowed to be sold in Switzerland after 30.06.2027, and sellers may no longer be allowed to import them after 01.01.2027. The reason is that the PortaSplit uses R32 as a refrigerant. R32 has a relatively high GWP of 675 (“Global Warming Potential”; CO₂ is the reference value with a GWP of 1). As far as I understand, starting in 2027, many air conditioners in Switzerland will only be allowed to be sold with refrigerants that have a GWP below 150. Do you think the current R32 mobile split AC units, such as the PortaSplit, will disappear starting in 2027? Do you expect a new version with R290/propane or other refrigerants that will still be permitted? For those who aren’t in a hurry: Would you buy the current portable split units while you still can, or would you rather wait for the next generation or other units? It would be a real shame if mobile split air conditioners were to temporarily disappear completely in Switzerland, as they are a lot better than monoblocks, especially in terms of energy efficiency and noise levels.
