The sailing cannon is inherently part of Sailing. Ranged combat is things like bows, arrows, crossbows, darts, and similar weapons. Aside from the Dwarf Multicannon, this cannon is literally designed specifically for Sailing content. My point is that if I want to go hunt great white sharks for Sailing loot, getting almost no Sailing XP feels bad. You’re spending time and money on cannonballs, engaging with Sailing content, and killing monsters, yet receiving essentially no Sailing XP for it. Ship combat is clearly still in a rough spot, and the developers are making a lot of changes trying to find the right balance. They’ve already changed it so that attacking from your ship now grants full damage and normal combat XP from your character, whether that’s Ranged or Mage. Meanwhile, Sailing XP is still mostly limited to Trials and Salvaging. I think making ship combat a meaningful source of Sailing XP would be healthy for the skill and the game overall. If players are actively engaging in Sailing content through naval combat, they should be rewarded with Sailing XP for doing so. submitted by /u/gusanderson12
