Every time Anthropic ships a new Opus, the Claude subreddit becomes an emergency room. Top comment: “greatest model ever made.” Reply directly under it: “they clearly swapped the servers for a toaster from 2007.” Opus 4.8 came out and within like two hours people were asking if it got nerfed, quantized, lobotomized, or replaced by some guy answering prompts from his basement. And it’s the same arc every single time. Day one it changes everything. Day two it’s over. Day three Anthropic secretly replaced it. Day four it’s good again. Day five it’s over again. By day six half the sub is posting token counts and screenshots like they’re solving a murder. Meanwhile there’s probably one engineer at Anthropic who changed a single comma in the system prompt, opening Reddit to three thousand people announcing the collapse of civilization. submitted by /u/New_Alarm4418
