I’ve settled into a workflow where I use Claude for planning/architecture and Claude Code for the actual coding. The problem is that all the planning, brainstorming, system design discussions, debugging strategies, and back-and-forth reasoning also consume Claude usage. Sometimes I end up using a significant portion of my limits before I even get to the coding phase in Claude Code. Because of that, I’m considering using a second AI specifically for planning and keeping Claude Code focused on implementation. The two options I’m looking at are ChatGPT and Gemini, but I’m open to other suggestions as well. Things I’d use the planning model for: • Project architecture and system design • Breaking down features into tasks • PRD and specification writing • Brainstorming implementation approaches • Reviewing workflow ideas before coding • General technical discussions Then I’d take the final plan and hand it off to Claude Code. For people who use Claude Code regularly: • What do you pair it with? • ChatGPT or Gemini? • Any strengths/weaknesses you’ve noticed? • Has using a separate planning model actually helped reduce Claude usage? Interested in hearing real-world workflows rather than benchmark comparisons. submitted by /u/Mission-Dentist-5971
