I recently discovered the ability to permanently lock Ironman account status was removed in 2024, and now only provides 90 days of protection. The Wiki update history states that people who previously permalocked their accounts will have the option to instead switch to the 90 day period, but I just checked and the permalock I had on my account is no longer present. Even worse it was defaulted to a 7 day period. I play Ironman for the long term progression and individual achievement. I have 3200 hours on this account and plan many many more. The fact that someone could hack my account while I’m taking a break from the game and destroy all of that on a whim is honestly baffling. I personally don’t understand the point of allowing de-ironing in the first place and would be happy to see it gone, but I’m also glad it’s an option for those that want it. I’m not everybody. If someone hacks me and I lose items, that’s crushing, but I can get those back. I can’t get my Iron status back, I can’t get my collection log back, and the account is essentially gone. The game mode is the point of the account. A hacker can’t delete a normal account, but de-ironing effectively deletes an Ironman account. I have a bank pin, Jagex account, authenticator, strong password, different password between email and Jagex account. I’m checking all the boxes, but Jagex CANNOT guarantee that I won’t get hacked, and they cannot restore my status once de-ironed. Not allowing us to protect ourselves from threats they cannot guarantee our safety from seems wrong, especially since it was previously an option. To take that lock away with no notice to me whatsoever also feels wrong. I thought I was still protected. I’m sure there was some news post about it, but I didn’t see one and may have been on a break when it was posted. Jagex, please. I know the chances are astronomically small, but I literally learned about this from another post about someone’s group ironman status being downgraded by a hacker while on a break. It can happen, and I can’t imagine how I would feel if it happened to me. Sincerely, a concerned Ironman submitted by /u/ActualFl3tch
