Not just referring to playing the greatest game you ever played on release. Also referring to the social aspect. Though if everyone was gushing about it that does count. I’d probably say GTA V, especially being 13 the night of release you essentially had the game or you were a loser. Especially those first few months of GTA Online before they ransacked the game with micro-transactions it was truly incredible. However I’m only not going to pick it because I don’t think at the time I could fully appreciate the release. Still a fantastic game, but I was a little undercooked to fully understand what made the game great. I’m gonna have to go with Dragon Ball FighterZ. Seeing its trailer in the summer of 2017 even with all the bangers that released in 2017 from all genres I was not desensitized by the sheer influx of good games coming out. And what a way to start 2018 with its release. Once it came out it fully delivered. Instantly broke EVO records, basically killed the new Marvel vs Capcom at the time, was a fantastic game and it was having so much cross pollination between fighting game players and Dragon Ball fans. I really do not think we will see a future fighting game with the social impact that Dragon Ball FighterZ had for a LONG TIME. submitted by /u/TPR-56
