I was just surprised to see that the state subsidizes agriculture and food industry with 3.6 billion CHF. According to Google there are ~50’000 farms in Switzerland. This means 72k CHF per farm. That’s imo a fairly good salary! I know that there often multiple people to support per farm, but that’s the same for a family where one person earns 72k CHF annually. How can we make agriculture economically feasible again? Imo it would need a lot of consolidation of farms. I find it crazy how small our individual fields are - no wonder this can never be economical. Or do we need to raise food prices? Farms get more than 50% of their incomes from subsidies. Subsidies are good to keep the status quo, but I hope we agree that that system is not something we should sustain for long. submitted by /u/Past-Age3189
