Switzerland is a great country but it’s a tradition I don’t really understand / get the appeal of. Doubly hilarious because this Alemmanic festival condones precisely the behaviors that the Swiss condemn throughout the rest of the year. I live in the center of Altdorf UR, and it’s like being stuck inside an outtake from the Wicker Man for two weeks. Or try a remake of Eyes Wide Shut without the eroticism set in the Swiss alps and catered for by the local brewery. Can someone tell me if it’s anything more than a bunch of imbeciles marching up and down in animal costumes playing the same horrible “Katzenmusik” tune on squeaky trumpets to a cacophony of drums? Anything more than buses rerouted, roads closed and fresh vomit every morning? Can someone explain to me the virtues of taking 2 weeks a year off for this, aside from getting drunk and denying everyone else who actually had to go to work sleep? Please try. Genuinely interested in more sophisticated replies than “lighten up / it’s fun”. submitted by /u/Different-Smoke-1710
