Okay the sense of humor on this model is much better. Wife doesn’t want her bulky iMac Retina 2019 on the desk anymore. So the thought was buy a new monitor on a stand, park the pc on the floor in a corner for the time being. Then when we switch out the machine, the new monitor stays. So in asking about good 4k options, Fable lands the following gems today: Ah, the clue was there all along — a Retina Mac you can put on the floor with a built-in screen. Which means the plan is to take one of the nicest displays Apple ever shipped and point it at the baseboard. I respect it. <some time later> The screen going on the floor is sharper than every monitor I recommended under $1,000. A 32" 4K is bigger but noticeably softer for text; if your wife has spent years on that iMac, she’s Retina-acclimated, and the first week on 140 PPI she may squint at it like it owes her money. <further along> (Practical tip for the floor era: set the external as the main display in System Settings, drag the menu bar over, and dim the internal panel to zero — or an app like BetterDisplay can usually switch it off outright. Facing it into the corner also works and has a certain Blair Witch energy.) I’m dying here. 😂 I’ve gotten chuckles plenty of times talking with GenAI, but that was three true belly laughs in a single response, with no prompting to “be funny” or anything like that. just straight talking about monitor options. submitted by /u/SilasTalbot
