I was hanging out with three of my friends, two females (me; my girl friend B), two males (B’s cohort C whom I also know as a friend; my cohort D who is stranger to B and C), age 20s-30s, Asians, in town on Sunday. We had lunch and visited a couple of places to take pictures, etc. Things got weird when C was about to leave around dinnertime. C needs to leave b/c he has to prepare the internship tasks for the next day. When he was about to leave, he said “I am leaving now” several times. Here is a rough transcript of the conversation: C: I need to leave, to finish work for tomorrow morning’s presentation. We three: oh ok, which subway will you take? C: Subway xxxx. We three: Oh you live in XX apartment? C: Yeah I rent a room from my friend. ok, I’m leaving. We three: Sure. C: ok cool, I’m leaving. I’m leaving now. So he bacially said 5 times “I’m leaving now” to us. At first I thought weird, like, you could just said it once, explain why, say goodbye and leave. But when I looked at him trying to figure out why he still has no moves, I realized he was saying that sentences looking straight at me, like really straight at me. And it seemed like he was smiling slightly at the same time. I was completely flustered at the time, instinctively walking toward my friends and trying to hide. Anyway, I’ve never been in a relationship before, and I don’t have close male friends, so I don’t know what’s going on, especially with three friends present. I’m an outgoing person, so I’m not very reserved in my daily interactions. However, I haven’t done anything suggestive, and there hasn’t been any physical contact. I might act a little soft/flirty sometimes when I talk, but toward all three, not with anyone in particular. For C, we knew each other for a year but not close, we are in the same tennis facebook group, played tennis only 3 times I guess. and we only chat with each other when I have questions about his major or his work.
