Yes it’s a click bait title but there is a lot of truth to it. The summary is that melee armor stats are so squished, with how a weapon like the fang works, with how max hit thresholds work, with how most mobs in this game do not have 0 defense, something like the new proposed hybrid helmet offering little tiny baby +5 stab bonus with 6 str is better than the 8 str torva helm. We have precedent already in the game to fix something like this from the mage rebalance update. I think it was a very successful update which added necessary value to items like ancestral and opened up new reward space like virtus, confliction gauntlets, and avernic treads. Even if this new armor looks cool, might have some interesting use cases, could be a great addition to the game, it and other armor sets can’t be added without killing another set of armor. From then on we’re looking at miniscule accuracy upgrades or send it with a +12 str helm to actually be an upgrade people want. All the while torva dead and ignored(while having the coolest transmog in the game). Melee upgrades seem to be the only upgrades that followed some form of oldschool approach, careful meticulous conservative +2 strength per upgrade… sometimes doesn’t even give you a max hit… And then mage gets confliction gauntlets. At the end of the month range is getting seeker arrows AND necklace of rupture?? Wtf is that like 4 5 max hits? Give torva another +1 str per piece??? Absurdity! It might give TWO max hits! We can follow a similar approach to the mage update where we shift numbers around, taking str from some items and giving to others. Or just straight up nerf the main offenders and buff torva. Maybe just buff torva and call it a day. Idk what to do, just know there’s an issue that is devaluing a gear set extremely and holding back anymore from releasing without killing it completely. Similar discussion: the idea of +1 str = 25%(or whatever number to reach next threshold) chance per hit to go to the next max hit is a neat idea to play with. It’d make every strength level increase for early game relevant, every +1 str from a potion, and early game-end game whenever you are wearing your best melee gear, even if your gear doesn’t reach the next guaranteed threshold it’d still be helping you sometimes. Right now, unless you’ve calced your loadout, you are likely wearing a piece of gear that doesn’t help you. That sucks lol. submitted by /u/SoupToPots
