Having a crossbow that uses a new type of ammo should not have raised so much controversy. This isn’t the first time an item has used exclusive ammunition or a unique recharge mechanic. Almost 20 years ago, the Karil Crossbow was introduced to the game, using a unique type of ammunition: bolt racks. Time passes, OSRS is released, and then the Blowpipe is introduced alongside the Toxic Trident. Both use Zulrah scales to recharge (the Blowpipe also requires darts). Zulrah scales drop from Zulrah, which was the endgame boss at the time. Years later, the Eclipse atlatl is introduced, using another exclusive type of ammunition: atlatl darts. Once again, we have an ammo/item that serves only one purpose. So I don’t see any problem with releasing a new crossbow or ranged weapon that doesn’t use any existing ammunition in the game. We all know how strong ruby and diamond bolts are, especially ruby bolts, which benefit significantly from faster attack speeds. “But it’s a crossbow, so it should use bolts.” Fine, then change the item’s appearance and rename it to “Twin Blowpipe” or “FMG9 Akimbo,” and let it use darts or another new type of ammo instead. TL;DR: If they really want to introduce a two-handed crossbow with a faster attack speed, creating a new type of ammunition is already a good balancing solution. The whole discussion about ruby bolts is almost nonsensical. submitted by /u/JordhanMK
