My cleaning lady had a breakdown yesterday! and I’m trying to understand something cuz it’s the second time I’ve heard this story ( previous cleaner ) I’m a middle-class foreigner, who can afford weekly cleaning help. I always Twint my cleaner immediately after she finishes. Yesterday my cleaner broke down in my bathroom. She also works for several wealthy families in the Zurich and Zug area: MDs, CEOs, partners, and people who own companies and multi-millions homes. She told me this has been a pattern for years ( just like my previous cleaning lady) These families almost never pay per day. They insist on monthly payments ( all legal contract based) She is currently waiting for three different payments that were supposed to be paid at the end of December. According to her, this is extremely common. Many of her friends who work as cleaners/nannies for high-income households experience the same thing: late payments, sometimes weeks or even months. I honestly don’t understand. If you are wealthy and living very comfortably, why would you withhold payment from a cleaner or a nanny? I feel it’s an emotional abuse but why ? Also is this actually common in Switzerland, or is it just bad luck? Thanks. submitted by /u/Susi-99
