I use my ebike for my daily commute and park it in front of my building. I’m in a pretty safe city, on a quiet street, so I never worried much about it since the past 3 years. About a month ago I went to head out and the screen was just gone. The display has no locking mechanism, so it pops right off. I ended up without the bike for a week waiting on a replacement. I figured whoever did it got what they wanted and that’d be the end of it, so I didn’t bother securing it again. Today, same thing happened. Screen gone again. Ofcourse I’m not sure 100% it’s the same person, but it’s just a gut feeling. Now I’m taking this personally. Since it’s infront of my building i can point a camera from my balcony at it and film the person trying to steal it again. Is it worth filing a police report each time, so there’s a documented pattern if they’re ever caught? Realistically, what consequences actually exist for repeat low-value theft like this? What can I legally do to get this person in maximum legal trouble? submitted by /u/SalamanderGullible13
