Runescape’s early art (carried forward from Runescape Classic) made heavy use of texture-based materials for the world. This is most visible in the roofs and doors of buildings like Ardougne Castle , but can also be seen in the design of old style trees , waterfalls , altars , and stones . Starting around 2005-2006, the art style for new and updated content shifted strongly towards a simplified style of textured material. The best point of comparison here is likely the Varrock overhaul from May 2007 . It is this style which has largely been evolved through OSRS, with content like Varlamore , Desert Treasure 2 and the Tombs of Amascut pushing this style in really impressive directions. My question is - is there room to evolve that older, texture based art style in a similar way? What might that look like? Some areas of Varlamore and sailing reincorporate subtle examples of this busier texture style - to what extent can this style be made to exist comfortably alongside that newer content, or will it always feels like a holdover from an earlier era? submitted by /u/The_Collector
