I recently realised that men are asked to kill animals for the family meal chickens/pigs etc. It means a man will kill an animal that clearly feels fear and pain. The man needs to supress his natural empathy in order to fulfill the role. My guess is that a lot of men do various forms of emotional labor that we rarely speak of. What examples come to mind? Managing your emotions or other people’s emotions to fulfill a role is EL. submitted by /u/random_sm
