This happened to me in my early 30s I started off as an EMT and then became a Nurse, worked ICU/ER for 10 years and then I jumped to the corporate world after burn out. I had worn scrubs nearly my professional life, outside of work it was mostly sandals, shorts, t-shirts, jeans, sneakers etc. I think I only owned a few ties and my only button down shirts and polos, I had since high school. Once I entered the corporate world I wasn’t ready for these work dinners, happy hours, upscale “training events” at expensive hotels. I would show up way under dressed and a few older coworkers let me know I needed to work on it which I greatly appreciated. I went out and bought dress shoes, a suit, slacks and polos, I watched a bunch of YouTube videos on how to tie a tie but it was like a splash of cold water in my face. I was in my early 30s but I quickly realized I was totally out of my element and needed to adapt quickly. So I’m nearly 40 and I’ve adapted, I’m glad I did learn that lesson and dressing more professionally at my age really helps with dating as well. But still to this day I realize so many time I don’t zip up my pants because I was so used to scrubs, that’s chiseled into my brain forever. submitted by /u/gamerdudeNYC
