But this whole discussion around AC and heatwaves may be civilization defining. There is a lot of literature about productivity and heat which state that increased heat clearly lowers productivity. This applies to learning in school and at the workplace. Lee Kwan Yew the “founding father” of Singapore once said that AC may have been the single most important invention for SGs success. As temperatures have and will continue to increase we now find ourselves to be the new Singapore with the only difference of going into this challenge as an extremely wealthy country. We however have a much bigger hurdle than money which is of a cultural nature. The question is can we pop out of our cultural freeze and invest in Ac/change regulations. I just talked to my mom who said she was working on 33 degree heat at her office. I don’t even want to know what older people, hard labor workers or students are going through.
