Swiss here who did recruit school and some repeat courses (WK /CR), and is now thinking about changing to civil service (Zivildienst / Service Civil). I have a few questions and would be grateful if some of you could help: So apparently, you need to submit an application if you want to switch to civil service, and the authorities take some time until they inform you about the decision. So does this mean they can refuse you? I.e. it is possible you are forced to remain in the army, is that true? In what cases does this happen? After you submit your application, how long does it generally take to get the decision? Do you need to write some kind of motivation letter or why you want to switch to civil service? What do you suggest writing if I want to change because I’m fed up of serving in the army and would prefer civil service since I can go home every day and not have to suffer under jerks/power hungry army officers? (If you are/were a student) Those of you who did civil service while still studying, how hard was it to do civil service while still being a student? Because you still have exams and a semester full of lectures, was it hard to organize your civil service alongside that? submitted by /u/qaywsxqaywsxqay
