I work in a shop that’s always exactly as hot as it is outside, since there’s no AC and the door is always open. When it’s 35°C outside, it’s 35°C inside too. Welding safety regs mean I have to wear a thick cotton sweater and long overalls. On top of that, a helmet with a respirator. On top of the ambient heat, the metal parts radiate extreme heat while welding, picture working right in front of a massive heater. Inside the helmet it easily hits 50°C. I’m 32 and healthy. I can push through until Wednesday, but by Thursday my whole body starts breaking down. Dizziness, nausea, massive gut issues. The intestines barely get any blood flow because the body is constantly pumping blood to the skin trying to cool down. I can barely recover anymore, especially since I can’t even cool down at home. I genuinely don’t understand why so many people are against air conditioning. My Vermieter strictly bans mobile AC units. WTF. submitted by /u/chefofyourmother
