I kind of have two friend groups… one from my home town… and one from where my family vacationed every year in a beach town about an hour from where I grew up… My home town friends act like I’m some asshole now and I don’t ever want to spend time with anybody and I think I’m “above” all their plans… which just isn’t the case… I’ve attended weddings that were in other countries, baby showers, etc… then I skip one party and I simply decline the nights going out drinking on the town because I work a demanding job now… I asked a few of them to go out and grab a drink on my birthday a couple years ago and everyone was “busy” Meanwhile when I decided to go back to college at 24 years old and get my degree they all made fun of me for it behind my back and to each other… “he’s still in school at 26” “you done with your degree yet? You’ve been in school for like 6 years now” Then when I graduated I got a great paying everybody started with the “oh mister finance” type of comments… then I decided to take my profrssional licensing exams and was more or less off the radar for 7 months… Meanwhile my other friends I grew up with at the beach who i still spend a lot of time with never acted like this… I told them I couldn’t attend gotta work they’d just go “ah man, you work too much. Ok next time” I pass my exams they all congratulate me… I get a better paying and finally have some money for the first time in my life they don’t act like dicks because of it… when I told them I was going back to college it was just “oh that’s great man it’s probably a good idea long term” my friend from home saying “everyone thinks you’re an asshole because you never show up for anything or anyone” but he called me almost every day for 7 months straight because he was sad about his ex girlfriend and I listened to the same stories for months on end. submitted by /u/Prize_Consequence_97
