My wife and I are both Swiss (dual citizens), with a 1 year old and another baby on the way. My wife hasn’t been working she struggled to find work even before the pregnancy and while I earn decent money, it’s not enough to cover Kita plus all our other expenses and still leave us with anything close to a comfortable life. We’re considering a temporary setup where she moves back to our other home country, where cost of living is much lower and her parents are nearby for support. The plan would be: She rents a place there with the kids, close to her family and I move in with my parents here in Switzerland to cut costs. I keep working my Swiss job (I already WFH most of the time) and I fly back and forth periodically (it’s an 8–11 hour flight). In Switzerland for a month and then outside of Switzerland for a month. Does anyone know the actual rules on how long I can be outside Switzerland while still employed by a Swiss company and paying into the Swiss system? I’m aware tax and social security treatment can depend on any bilateral agreement between Switzerland and the other country, but I’d appreciate input from anyone who’s navigated this in practice. Has anyone actually done something like this split households across countries for financial reasons, with one parent flying back and forth? How did it work out logistically and emotionally? submitted by /u/Revolutionary_Cow622
