Was just chatting to a friend who is a 20 year XP dev - he’s not using AI at all as doing some dull cushty FT role with lots of compliance etc… there’s literally no AI in his workflow yet and meanwhile he’s ‘just’ enjoying life in the evenings. My advice was to explore new jobs to learn AI or at least learn it in the evenings - but he literally has no interest and just laughing it off. I personally thinking he’s heading into a brick wall of ignorance and that wall is gonna hit hard and faster than he thinks - I have a few friends with this mindset and they still have a couple decades before retirement, they seem blissfully unaware. Not sure what to do here, perhaps I’m wrong anyway. But don’t wanna be the soapbox friend evangelising the unemployment risk of not up skilling. Thing is, I have really high conviction on this impending situation and these are friends I care about. How are you guys handing this? submitted by /u/Sketaverse
