A piece of advice to you all: always verify your medical bills (and tbh any invoice you get in Switzerland). I already received 5 random medical invoices dated from months before, charging me for consultations that never happened. They are really shameless. In one occasion (outpatient in a cantonal hospital), in 6 months I received 2 wrong invoices: one 9 days BEFORE my FIRST appointment and later one dated 6 months AFTER the appointment for a supposed “phone consultation” (that never happened, nor was supposed to happen). The first one before the appointment I just (wrongly) thought “only xxchf, it is better to pay and don’t discuss”. Then came the other one and I am simply shocked with this. I am sure I never had any phone or any consultation at all in January or any email exchange. It was an awful experience trying to fix it. My insurance just says they cannot do anything. The clinic now, after two weeks of discussions, admitted their mistake about the phone consultation and cancelled this invoice. But the most weird point: the financial department told me that they didn’t send me any invoice for before the consultation 🤨. When I inquired how it was possible since I have this invoice in the “patient portal” of the clinic, my health insurance received it directly from them and attached the invoice they simple stopped to answer me. In other cases I received invoices from random dates from my insurance, always for false consultation from months before. I think they send it dated like the consultation was many months ago because then most people (specially older people) will not remember if the appointment happened or not. Not only medical, but also in April I received an invoice from the veterinarian for a consultation in January (that never happened). I (naively) called them to inform that someone was sending faking invoices on their name, but no, they confirmed that they were the ones who sent it “by mistake”. Today again, I received a random invoice from a dermatologist charging for “writing a medical report for another doctor” 3 months after my consultation, totally without justification (I didn’t give them the name of any GP or any other doctors). Several friends have been through the same. Most people don’t check, specially when they have reached the franchise and the health insurance covers the costs. It is unbelievable that this mafia of fake medical charges keeps happening while the health insurance prices continue to increase. I wrote to BAG, but they said they cannot do anything. So it seems the only thing I can do is to try to raise awareness of the importance of checking your medical bills… And maybe if you had similar experiences, also write to the BAG. Maybe if enough people bother them, they will do something… submitted by /u/rl_1991
