One of the biggest complaints I’ve seen about Maggot King is that the regular loot just isn’t rewarding. At the same time, I don’t think every new boss needs to become another herb, seed, and alch printer. I think there’s a better solution. Instead of buffing the GP, have Maggot King drop untradeable Blood Shard Fragments . How it would work Blood Shard Fragments are untradeable . You can use a fragment on a Blood Fury to add charges. Each fragment would restore a set amount of charges (whatever Jagex thinks is balanced). Fragments cannot be combined into Blood Shards or sold on the Grand Exchange. Why I think this is a good solution Every kill feels meaningful. Even when you don’t get a unique, you’re still making progress toward maintaining one of the strongest PvM amulets in the game. It doesn’t hurt the Blood Shard economy. The biggest criticism of adding Blood Shards directly is that players grinding Maggot King for pets or uniques would passively flood the game with tradeable Blood Shards. This completely avoids that. Since the fragments only recharge your own Blood Fury, they never enter the economy. It gives PvMers another way to maintain Blood Fury charges. Instead of feeling forced to camp Vyres, venators or constantly buy Blood Shards, players who enjoy bossing can slowly sustain their Blood Fury by killing Maggot King. It keeps Maggot King’s identity. The boss still isn’t a huge money maker, but it offers a genuinely useful reward that players will appreciate long after getting the uniques. It rewards progression instead of raw GP. I honestly think this is a better solution than simply buffing the loot table. It makes the boss more rewarding, preserves Blood Shard prices, gives Blood Fury users another progression path, and avoids turning Maggot King into another GP-printing boss.
