Good afternoon, I was wondering what is the etiquette in Switzerland around return offers during long internships (6 months in startup). I’m 4 months in and need to start planning whether to stay or begin looking for a new internship or entry-level position. The job market is pretty rough right now and I would like to avoid reaching the end with nothing lined up, which gives the employer too much leverage on salary. My main questions are whether employers simply expect interns to be looking around, or whether it is seen as a loss of trust if they find out, or whether I should be upfront about my intentions. Would it also be reasonable to ask about a contract in advance before the internship ends, just to see if they have already made a decision? Sorry if this has been asked before but searching online I found that these dynamics vary a lot across countries, so better to ask locally. For context, I work in a small tech startup in Zurich with decent stable funding. I have a master’s degree and Swiss citizenship.
