This isn’t intended to be a technical analysis of token consumption, but rather the practical experience of a heavy user on top-tier subscriptions (the $200 GPT Pro plan and the $200 Claude plan). I work directly in the terminal using Claude Code configured on “Extra High”. I typically worked with four windows open at different points in the project without predefined workflows. Recently, I started using GPT—specifically the “Sol Ultra” and “Fast” setups—for simpler tasks, such as setting up mobile app configurations for Android, iOS, and iPad, while still maintaining four simultaneous windows. It is undeniable to me that token consumption is significantly faster with GPT (using Sol Ultra). This is already the second time I’ve run out of tokens and had to wait to continue working. With Claude Code, I would usually finish my development sessions with about 2% capacity remaining, but it was just enough to get the job done for the day. While GPT does offer better conversational flow and slightly improved reasoning, in my daily work—configuring the internal educational platform I develop for my business—I haven’t seen any real benefit regarding token efficiency. The claim that it is much cheaper feels false to me; in practical operational terms, it certainly doesn’t result in a lower cost. submitted by /u/Admirable_Garbage208
