My boyfriend is tall, 6’3 and right now probably about 300LB. He was always skinner and used to weigh 260LB, he started gaining weight more when he quit smoking cigarettes. I think he’s perfect, but I know he doesn’t feel good about it at all. I know it bothers him. I’m the one who cooks for him, so any meal suggestions would be awesome. Also maybe a realistic gym plan? My bf worked everyday (outside, all weather, 10 hour days) and then would go to the gym everyday after work. First it was 3 miles, then 4 miles, then 7 miles I told him he needs to stop that is not a realistic gym plan and he has gone before already ritually. I said slow down on the gym too because he works like 60/70 hours a week and started suffering from extreme burnout. I just want to figure something out for the next time I go shopping I know what is good to pick up or not. I know a lot of it is cutting out the snacking. Like chips cookies ect that’s obvious. He’s a picky eater, no tomatoes no avacado (hates texture) no peppers, really no fruit besides apples, tangerines really) he still needs to eat enough to be full and have energy throughout the day. Thank you anyone who replies I cannot express how much I appreciate it. Edit to add: also a good workout schedule. I don’t control him, he does what he wants. At the time he kept adding more and more time and more and more miles I was getting concerned he still didn’t feel skinny and I thought genuinely he was experiencing body dysmorphia. I just want there to be an in between submitted by /u/ibuiltyouarosegarden

At the end of the day, losing weight comes down to two things…
Calories in.
Calories out.
One of those needs to be higher than the other.
I’m 55 and starting to have real problems with my weight and all the issues that come with it, such as high blood pressure. I’m heavier now than I ever have been (192lbs two days ago). I’m just a shade under 5’8" tall so I have no business being nearly 200lbs. What am I doing about it? I’ve massively increased my exercise regimen. I do at least 30 minutes per day on an elliptical and I’m reducing my caloric intake. Before I was doing 30 minutes 3 times a week, now it’s 6 to 7 times. I do take a couple of days in the week and instead of running, I just do a brisk walk to allow for recovery.
No more donuts once a week, one bagel instead of two, more home cooked dinners rather than eating out. Which is easy for me as cooking is a hobby of mine. As a snack I keep popcorn around instead of pre-packaged chips or other snack foods. I make the popcorn, so it’s to my taste and I know what is in it.
With all that said, it still comes down to calories in and calories out. If you are packing in 4000 calories a day and only burning 1000, you will not get ahead.
