Hi all, I find myself constantly rummaging over how AI is shifting, or may shift, our world and the respective social consequences / wins that it may bring, and I’ve been trying to find like-minded people with whom I could have this discussion. I’d be very happy to hear your thoughts and opinions on my points below, as well as counter-arguments and your own views. Determinism: For instance, there is a large drive, globally, for companies to accelerate their AI implementation and usage, to automate repetitive tasks and thus become more efficient. Is AI, in its current form, the correct tool for this? LLMs do not produce deterministic results, thus, how can you guarantee that your automation will deliver the result that you desire? I speculate that this can be a particularly relevant topic with the usage of Agentic AI to replace repetitive and manual tasks. Wouldn’t a classic software solution, with deterministic results, be a better fit for such an automation? Vendor lock-in: Furthermore, AI is currently being mass-adopted through cloud solutions, AI Compute is still quite expensive, which creates a strong vendor-dependency and renders companies powerless beyond upcoming price increases, especially when most business processes depend on AI in some kind of form. In this case, the vendor does not scale to accommodate the customer, rather the customer needs to quickly adapt and scale to adapt to the vendor - which is a big shift in the enterprise world. Small or local models: Could the future of massive AI adoption be in much smaller models, but strongly oriented towards a specific topic, potentially trained in-house by the companies that use them, and running them on their own cloud / on-prem infra-structure? Economical consequences: And the last topic that currently keeps my brain busy regarding AI is, are we in front of a snowball effect, where companies keep automating and thus reducing their headcount, causing financial increased strain in the middle and lower classes, who in turn stop spending their money on nice-to-have or luxury products, which in turn drives the demand for products & services down, which in turn weakens the consumption economy?
