Marketing found a new software that ran on the kind of servers I dealt with. For a job they rented expensive external equipment, and, at the last moment, decided to take me along “in case of”. I basically learned what exactly that job was about when i was riding shotgun with the project manager to the customers site.

I told him that what they wanted to do was technically impossible with the softwarepack they had bought.

Solution: I would write a piece of software overnight that would do what we had sold to the customer. Finished before the event starts in the morning. I was set up first on site, and wrote a working software that managed both events perfectly.
