Jagex really outdid themselves with the lore drops and storyline in Blood Moon Rises. The quest just feels so much more… elevated(?) than its RS3 counterpart Lord of Vampyrium and I have to give props to the OSRS team for forging their own identity and staying true to the OSRS-unique lore. Loose ends like the Theatre of Blood / ‘Verzik’ were addressed. Mod Ed has done a great job of characterizing the vampyres (especially Drakan himself). Actually fleshing them out. We learn about their Society. Their lords and houses. Their wars. How they were domesticated by Zaros. And we hear Drakan’s regrets on this. Drakan was the perfect tragic villain. A man of regret, just searching for the fire in his life once more. He was not evil for the sake of being evil. He actually tries to barter with us during the quest, arguing that once the vampyres leave for Vampyrium, the remaining humans in Morytania will be free. The final confrontation hits so hard. “Even if it is you who will rise and I who will fall… it does not matter, for I am right where I need to be… Home”. And then the intro to one of the best OSRS soundtracks starts playing. It’s melancholy, not grandoise. This is Drakan’s story just as much as it is our own. I conclude with this excerpt from “The Wild Hunt”, released in 2018 with TOB, where Drakan writes about capturing Xarpus: "Like me, he has waited a long time for this day. At long last, I will face a true foe again. At long last, I will feel the joy of the hunt. I have not allowed myself to fall victim to the sloth and gluttony that has taken hold of the rest of my people. I should still have the strength to take on this challenge. However, if I should fall, let it be known that I am finally free again ." submitted by /u/tank_beats_evrything
