Hi. I am F(20) . I really need an outside perspective because I’m spiraling a little. There’s a guy at my university (we have two classes together). About a week ago we started making eye contact a lot. Then he found me on Instagram and followed me first. I accepted and liked one of his posts. He doesn’t post much and isn’t very active. He was consistently watching my stories, sometimes even rewatching them. On my birthday he liked my post but didn’t text me. We still kept making eye contact in class, but he’s usually with his friends, so it felt awkward to approach him. On Tuesday evening I finally sent him: “Hey, I feel like we always see each other in class but never say hi.” That’s literally it. Nothing flirty, nothing intense. Now it’s Thursday afternoon. He hasn’t replied. He completely stopped watching my stories. And I think he might have restricted me because I can’t see his highlights anymore. Here’s where it gets complicated. He’s Turkish, my friends told me I made a mistake. They said it’s embarrassing for a girl to text first, that I shouldn’t have done that. They told me guys usually take their time, sometimes even months of eye contact before making a move, and that I “ruined the dynamic” by messaging him. Now I feel stupid. Like maybe I broke some unspoken rule. Like maybe I looked desperate or too forward. Did I actually mess this up by reaching out first? Or is this just a sign he wasn’t that interested to begin with?
