My partner is pregnant and I’m happy about it, really. I catch myself smiling at nothing in the middle of the day. But at night my brain does this other thing. What if I’m not enough. What if I turn into my own father on the days I’m tired and short-tempered. What if I lose the version of myself I actually like. And then the money math starts and I just lie there doing arithmetic at 2am. I can’t say any of this out loud. Everyone around me is doing the “congrats man, you’ll be great” thing and I nod and say thanks, because what else do you say. Saying “I’m scared” feels like admitting I already failed at something that hasn’t started yet. So, man to man: did you feel this too? Did it go away, or did you just get used to carrying it? And is there anything you wish someone had told you before your kid arrived? submitted by /u/Still_Individual_897
