In theory wouldn’t small advantages (better researchers, more compute, novel algos etc) componud over time into a huge lead? How are openai, anthropic literally neck and neck all the time? whenever one drops a new model the others match or beat it like 3 weeks later. Are the folks working at these companies talking to each other all the time at conferences or sth ?Or maybe talent churn, research leaking out, or what? submitted by /u/jdshop
