I’m a woman in my early 20s. From school to college and now working in corporate, I’ve honestly never had a proper male friend. The only exception was my neighbor when I was younger. We used to go to school together, and even now if we call each other, we can have a normal conversation. Apart from that, I’ve always had good female friends. Lately, I’ve genuinely wanted to have a male friend—just a friend. No dating, no flirting, nothing more. A while ago, I started talking to a guy on Reddit because we had a common interest. The conversation flowed really well, and we had so much in common. Right from the beginning, I made it clear that I was only looking for friendship. Despite that, he eventually asked me out on a date. It was disappointing because I really thought I’d found someone who could just be a good friend. Then something similar happened with another guy. We started chatting after a discussion in the comments. He said he was happy being friends, but later when I casually mentioned one of my male coworkers, he started making jealous or possessive comments. It honestly makes me wonder—is it really that difficult for some guys to see a woman as just a friend? I’m not saying all men are like this, but this has been my experience so far, and it’s frustrating. Have any other women experienced this? And for the guys here, do you think genuine opposite-sex friendships are common. submitted by /u/Designer-Story2538
