It’s extremely epistemically lazy. It loves to rely on memory, make unfounded assumptions, make logical leaps, be generally uncareful, and over-trust flawed documentation rather than tracing the code logic itself. It also does extra stuff you never asked for while simply assuming (often incorrectly) that you wanted it. When user instructions are unclear, rather than asking for clarification, it just guesses (often incorrectly) what you want and does it. Never encountered this many problems with Opus 4.8. It feels like Anthropic rushed this model release to save this company’s declining PR before doing enough fine-tuning and RL on it to be an actually “trustworthy” model.
