A lot of AI presentation products still optimize for the most demo-friendly moment. The user gives some input, the system produces a deck, and the result is judged by how polished the first output looks. That matters, but it misses the harder interaction problem. Presentations are structured objects. A deck contains claims, evidence, pacing, visual hierarchy, and section logic. When someone edits a deck, they often do not want a global rewrite. They want a bounded change inside an already accepted structure. That boundary is the hard part. Rewrite this claim, but do not change the evidence slide. Make this page less dense, but keep the recommendation. Split this slide, but preserve the order of the argument. Change the visual style of one section, but do not touch the intro. If an AI system cannot represent and respect those boundaries, the user falls back into prompt roulette. Every improvement creates a new risk that something else changed silently. For slide tools, the next useful layer may be less about templates and more about stateful, local editing. First drafts are getting cheaper.
