Hi everyone, I’m 23 years old and I’m from Lugano, Switzerland. I started studying law at the University of Lucerne in 2022. To be honest, I haven’t had a great experience with the university. I also feel that the law faculty isn’t particularly understanding of students’ difficulties. My situation is a bit unusual because I’m a native Italian speaker, but there is no law faculty in my canton. That means I have to study everything in German, which makes the degree much harder. The frustrating part is that I genuinely enjoy studying. I study every single day and put a huge amount of time into it. I’m not someone who crams the night before or skips lectures. I really do my best. Despite all that, I failed two exams this semester. That means I’ll have to retake them, and it also means it will take me even longer to graduate. I’ve already been studying here for four years, and it feels like I’m making very little progress. What frustrates me the most is that I honestly don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I study a lot, but for some exams I just can’t seem to get a passing grade. At this point I’m wondering whether it’s my study method, the language barrier, or whether I’m simply not good enough. I’m starting to feel lost and I don’t know what options I have anymore. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did you change your study method, get help from professors or tutors, or do something else that made a difference? I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences.
