I (M17) recently finished high school in North America, and I moved to Switzerland until December to work and for a change in life for once. I’m living with my grandparents on my mum’s side, and I thought I would finally have a taste of independence living here, such as having no curfew and other freedoms. Instead, I get into lots of arguments with my grandparents, which I wish we didn’t. For context, I work around four days a week selling food in a food truck and learning Swiss German. My shifts are always from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., so I don’t have much time to hang out before or after work, but we live near a lake, so I always try to go swimming after work. I was worried about not making friends in Switzerland, as I’d heard it’s hard, but I’ve met lots of amazing people, and the easiest time for us to meet up is after work at 9. We often hang out until midnight when it’s the most peaceful and quiet, and the temperature is more moderate. But my grandparents have absolutely hated me working or hanging out until 10. I talked with them, and now it’s 11, but that’s still not much time to do anything. It’s important for me to hang out because when I first moved here, I felt really isolated and lonely. My grandpa has been getting really aggressive with me, and it feels like he’s one of those people who is just impossible to relate to. We have different senses of humour, and it makes it hard to get along with him. He has the idea that if he thinks he’s right, then he’s right, and that being louder makes him right. It’s incredibly frustrating. He’s been saying I’m making him miserable and that I should go back to North America, and that I only came here to work and nothing else, which feels so frustrating and painful to hear. My grandpa has been telling me for a while that I should just go back as soon as possible and that it would make everyone else happy. I guess what I’m asking is, what am I supposed to do now? Is there somewhere I could maybe rent on my own, or is it too late in the season or something else? Sorry, I hope what I wrote made sense. submitted by /u/PerformerTerrible722
