A lot of people like the idea of dry protection because it means every kc is “guaranteed progress” towards something. It sounds nice, but that “progress” is another bar to worry about about filling, something that takes up its own mental space. When drops are purely RNG, there is no weight on your mind because everything is exactly the same whether you’re on your 1st kill or 1000th kill. Accumulating progress towards a goal can sow a sense of obligation; if you walk away from the grind now, you’re wasting the distance you’ve already traveled. It’s not the sunk-cost fallacy because dry protection makes it real. The worst kind of dry protection would be having progress that’s still a little random(chance to move one step closer to the goal), and have multiple items like that on a single loot table, so you’re almost always left with progress on one item by the time you’ve finished grinding out another. Anyway, my suggestion is that we should get rid of XP and replace it with “every skill activity has a small chance to advance you by one level”. because skill training is the worst and most prevalent form of dry protected activity in the game. submitted by /u/DriveCtor
