I’ve been testing something a bit unconventional lately and wanted honest opinions. Before calling contractors for small home issues (noises, leaks, cracks, appliance problems), I started using AI to get a rough idea of what might be wrong. Not as a replacement for professionals but more like a first opinion so I don’t go in completely blind. Sometimes it’s surprisingly helpful. It correctly suggested water hammer for a pipe noise I had, which a plumber later confirmed. Other times it’s confidently wrong, especially with anything hidden behind walls or structural. So I started documenting real cases where:
- AI gave a diagnosis -Then the actual repair result was confirmed Mostly because I was curious how accurate it really is over time. I put a few of the case breakdowns here if anyone’s interested: r/HomeImprovementAI Curious where people stand on this: Would you ever use AI as a first step to understand a home issue, or is that a bad idea when it comes to repairs? submitted by /u/Disastrous-Ant-8972
