I’m curious about projects rather than careers. I’m 24 and recently got laid off from my software engineering job. I’ve been thinking about taking on a DIY surfboard project that would cost a meaningful amount of money. It made me wonder: what projects did you build when you were younger that you’re still proud of today? How it changed your life in social terms? Maybe it was restoring a motorcycle, building a boat, building a race car, woodworking, machining, electronics, or something else. Looking back years later: Was it worth the time and money? Did you ever regret spending the money? Did it end up giving you stories, skills, friendships, or opportunities you didn’t expect?
