I’m a new tenant renting a flat in an older building from a private landlord who is not especially reasonable, so I’d like to know whether this is worth raising before I contact him. First thing in the morning, after the water had been standing overnight, the cold water measured about 25°C for the first few seconds and read 22°C after running for 30 seconds. The hot water reached a maximum of around 48°C. My previous flat was also in an older building, but there the cold water was properly cold and the hot water was scalding hot, so the difference here is quite noticeable. The water looks and smells normal. It tastes a bit meh, although that may simply be because it is not cold enough to feel refreshing. The hot water, meanwhile, is only just making an effort. I’m asking because cold water that is too warm and hot water that is not hot enough can potentially create conditions in which Legionella bacteria grow, increasing the risk of Legionnaires’ disease. Are these temperatures normal for an older Swiss rental, or would it be reasonable to ask for the plumbing and hot-water system to be checked? submitted by /u/DepartureFar8340
